Many children go through a phase of being picky about food as they grow up. Fruits and vegetables are often unpopular. With a little extra attention from their parents, this usually goes away on its own.
But children can also develop a serious eating disorder, such as ARFID. In that case, children don't want to eat certain foods because of their texture, color, smell, taste, or temperature. Or because they're afraid of swallowing or choking.
ARFID isn't something to be dramatic: it's a disease that doesn't go away on its own. Talk to a doctor or specialist about it and visit www.arfid.nl for more information.
Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have an increased risk of eating problems.
Is your child overweight, underweight, or experiencing serious, persistent eating problems? Consult a doctor or specialist.
